Introduction

The Pakistan Business Council (PBC) was founded in December 2004 and held its first public meeting on the 4th June 2005, which was inaugurated by the President of Pakistan, His Excellency General Pervaiz Musharraf.

The PBC was the idea of leading corporate executives from Pakistan, living and working in the UAE, who envisioned the council providing a forum that would aid the promotion of commercial ties between the UAE and Pakistan.

Pakistan culturally, geographically and strategically enjoys very special ties with the UAE. With this in mind it is the objective of the PBC to further strengthen these ties through its membership and organised events. PBC membership is open to all Pakistani business professionals and UAE companies having an interest in Pakistan.

Since its formation the PBC has participated in a number of conferences and exhibitions and over the coming years the PBC will concentrate its efforts on heightening awareness among the local community of Pakistani capabilities and investment potential.
Our Objectives

•  Promote the development of trade, commerce and investments between Abu Dhabi UAE and Pakistan

•  Heighten awareness of the UAE's commercial significance and its potential among the Pakistani business community here and in Pakistan

•  Facilitate Pakistani businessmen and women in developing businesses which will include guidance relating to UAE government procedures and commercial laws

•  Provide facilities to back the business community who are interested to invest and wish to establish in the UAE and especially in Abu Dhabi

•  Interact with UAE businessman and other business groups

•  Provide a forum for Pakistani business executives and organize meetings in order to discuss and interact in areas of common interest

•  Organise UAE business delegation to Pakistan

•   Provide a link with government departments, tourist offices, educational institutions, health sector, chambers of commerce and other trade and business institutions in Pakistan

•  Help the UAE business community to invest in Pakistan, promoting the many business opportunities including investment in the Pakistani capital and commodity markets
The PBC Executive Committee

The Pakistan Business Council Executive Committee is elected annually from the Council's Membership.

Its role is to oversee the operations of the Council, ensure that the Council's objectives are met wherever possible and to provide overall guidance to the Council's Membership at large.

At all times the Honorary Chairman's position is held by the current Ambassdor of Pakistan to the UAE, who is currently H.E. Ahsanullah Khan.

Dr. S. Qaiser Anis
PBC President

Dr. Anis graduated with a degree in Business Administration in Karachi. He completed his Master and Doctorate (PhD) in Management Accounting from U.S.A. and passed Certified Public Accountant, U.S.A. He started his career at Price Waterhouse Coopers (A.F. Fergusson & co.) in Pakistan for 6 years then moved to KPMG Peat Marwick UAE as Manager for 2 years.

He established his own consulting company, Alliott Management Consulting UAE in 1977 and also a founding Partner of Alliott Hadi Shahid Chartered Accountants with offices in United Arab Emirates, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Alliott Management Consulting UAE and Alliott Hadi Shahid Chartered Accountants are member firms of Alliott Group which has 240 offices in 70 countries.

Dr. Anis is Fellow member of The Institute of International Financial Accountants of UK and British Institute of Management, Associate member of the American Management Association, New York, Affiliated member of the Association of International Accountants, member of the Montana Society of Certified Public Accountants, Institute of Financial Consultants, U.S.A., The Institute of C.P.A., Ireland, Association of Fraud Examiners and also a member of Islamabad Stock Exchange, Pakistan.

In his over 25 years of experience as consultant and public accountant, Dr. Anis has worked for public and private sector assignments ranging from UNICEF, government projects, large, medium and small-sized businesses.

Dr. Anis is currently the President of Pakistan Business Council, Abu Dhabi since 2004. He is also holding membership of various professional bodies including American Business Group, Abu Dhabi, serving as Honorary Board member since its inception, French Business Group, Swiss Business Council, and Chairman of Pakistan Institute of Science and Technology and Economics (PISTEC).

Dr. Anis's Contribution to Pakistan ~ Conducted many successful investor conferences in UAE, Muscat, Oman for Pakistan companies IPO where the overseas Pakistanis invested in these IPOs. Some are as follows:

Arranged Pakistan stock exchange conferences in Abu Dhabi and Bahrain led by Islamabad Stock Exchange where more than US$ 258 million of funds invested in Pakistan capital market. The conferences were attended by more than 200 delegates from Pakistan and 100 delegates from UAE. Received award from the President of Pakistan for arranging this event.

Arranged investors conference in coordination with American Business Group in Abu Dhabi addressed by the Ambassador of Pakistan identifying investment opportunities in Pakistan led to many of the American companies visited Pakistan for exploring investment opportunities.

Appointed by the Pakistan Ambassador in UAE as Coordinator for preparing constitution of Pakistan Center which was successfully prepared and approved by all the Committee members and the Pakistan Embassy.

Speaker on many forums projecting Pakistan for investment, transfer of technology and development of image of Pakistan.

Appointed by Pakistan Ambassador in UAE as member of constitution committee of Pakistan Business Council UAE. Worked to finalize and got the constitution approved by the Abu Dhabi authorities.

As President of Pakistan Business Council, arranged to send delegations to Pakistan through Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry for participating in Pakistan Expo 2005 and Pakistan Expo 2006 and also attended both the Expos.

Leading the Pakistan Business Council in all the forums in UAE, organized many functions for achieving the objectives of the Council.

Trustee of Islamic Mission Hospital Trust in Pakistan which has constructed 200 Bed Hospital and 2 School of Nursing.

Presently working on:

1.Introducing Pakistan capital market funds in UAE and GCC countries for non resident Pakistanis, other nationalities and financial institutions

2.Arranging MOU’s with Central Depository Company with:

a.Abu Dhabi Securities Market
b.Dubai Financial Market

3.Working with Abu Dhabi Securities Market and Dubai Financial Market for listing Pakistani quoted companies in the two markets.

In the 2nd week of November 2006, arrange to take the Abu Dhabi Securities Market Directors and Executives to Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi to sign MOU between Islamabad Stock Exchange, Lahore Stock Exchange and Karachi Stock Exchange.

4.Arranging Capital Market function together with Central Depository Company of Pakistan on 18th September and 20th September in Emirates Palace Hotel, Abu Dhabi and Burj Al Arab Hotel, Dubai

5.Leading the Pakistan Business Council together and Irish Business Council for organizing the 6th Annual Business Groups Forum function in Emirates Palace Hotel on 6th November (This Abu Dhabi Business Groups Forum comprise of 18 Business Councils). The function is expected to be attended by 1,000 delegates.

6.Plan to arrange investor conferences and exhibitions in Abu Dhabi and Dubai together with Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the month of January 2007.
